How to Install Full Tail Light Brake
& Running Light Overlays

2021–2026 Hyundai Elantra N

For Best Results

Tools Needed: Heat gun or blow dryer, padded glove or felt-tip squeegee

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Clean the Tail Lights
  • Rinse and clean the entire rear
tail light surface using soap and water or 70% isopropyl alcohol.
  • Wipe the surface completely dry.
  • Make sure there is no dust,
residue, moisture, or loose debris remaining on the surface or inside the
    surrounding crevices.

2. Install the Smaller Quarter-Panel
Brake Light Overlay

  1. Peel the overlay from the
    backing paper.
  2. Start by aligning the overlay at
the corner where the brake light meets the trunk line.
  3. Once aligned, lightly tack down
the edge. The top of the overlay should sit just below the factory black
    outline surrounding the tail light.
  4. Slowly lay the rest of the
overlay onto the lens while smoothing it down with your free hand,
    finger, or felt-tip squeegee.
  5. Push any trapped air toward the
    nearest edge as you work.
  6. There will be excess vinyl
along the edge near the turn signal. This material is designed to wrap
    around the edge.
  7. Apply light heat to make the
vinyl more pliable, then carefully fold and secure the excess vinyl
    around the edge.
  8. Firmly press along the curved
area. Reapply light heat as needed until the edge remains securely bonded
    without lifting or bubbling.
  9. Once you are satisfied with the
placement, peel off the protective plastic cap sheet.

3. Install the Tail Light Side
Reflector Marker Overlay

  1. Peel the overlay from the
    backing paper.
  2. Align the curved end of the
overlay with the curved portion of the tail light pointing toward the
    front of the vehicle.
  3. Lightly tack that edge down and
make sure the top of the overlay sits just below the factory black
    outline surrounding the tail light.
  4. Slowly smooth the remaining
    overlay onto the lens.
  5. The side reflector overlay will
slightly overlap the previously installed brake light overlay. This is
intentional and creates a more uniform appearance.
  6. Once the placement is correct,
peel off the protective plastic cap sheet.

4. Install the Trunk Brake Light
Overlays — 2 Pieces

  1. Begin with either the
    passenger-side or driver-side piece.
  2. Align the outer edge of the
overlay with the trunk line. Position the top of the overlay just below
the factory black outline surrounding the tail light.
  3. Lightly tack the starting edge
    into position.
  4. Using your free hand, guide the
overlay across the trunk brake light while smoothing the material down
gradually with your finger or felt-tip squeegee.
  5. The first piece should end near
the center of the trunk, below the rear-view camera.
  6. There will be excess vinyl
along the outer edge that needs to wrap around the lens.
  7. Heat is not normally required
for the initial fold, but a small amount of heat can be used to make the excess
    vinyl
more pliable and help secure the wrapped edge.
  8. Once you are satisfied with the
placement, remove the protective plastic cap sheet.
  9. Repeat the same steps on the
    opposite side.

5. Final Post-Heating & Adhesion

  • Once all overlays are positioned
correctly, carefully inspect all edges, curves, and wrapped areas.
  • Post-heat the vinyl using a heat gun or blow dryer
until the material is hot but not scalding to the touch.
  • Post-heating helps activate the
adhesive and improves long-term bonding, especially around curved and
    wrapped edges.
  • Firmly press down all heated
    areas while they cool.

6. Remove Remaining Air Bubbles

  • If you notice any small bubbles,
use your finger or felt-tip squeegee to push the air toward the nearest
    edge.
  • Do not puncture the vinyl unless
    specifically instructed.

7. If You Make a Mistake

  • Correct the issue as soon as
    possible.
  • Gently lift the overlay only
    back to the affected area.
  • Apply light heat to help relax
    any wrinkles or distortion.
  • Allow the material to cool
slightly, then carefully lay it back down while smoothing from the center
    outward.
  • Avoid pulling or excessively
stretching the vinyl, as this can distort the original shape.

📌 Reminder: Always post-heat the vinyl after installation. This activates the glue and ensures maximum adhesion.
