How to Install 2023+ Prius and Prius Prime Headlight DRL Daytime Running Lights:

For Best Results
Tools Needed: Heat gun or blow dryer, padded glove or felt-tip squeegee
Install Level:

Step-by-Step Installation:

1. Prepare the Surface

    • Thoroughly clean the entire headlight using soap and water, or wipe it down with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol.
    • Remove all dirt, wax, grease, and debris from the surface.

2. Dry the Headlight

    • Wipe the headlight completely dry using a clean microfiber towel.
    • Ensure there is no remaining moisture, lint, dust, or loose fibers before installation.

3. Position the DRL Overlay

    • Peel the DRL tint from the backing paper.
    • Begin by aligning the overlay's inner rounded corner with the rounded corner where the front bumper meets the headlight housing.
    • This corner acts as the primary reference point for the entire installation and should sit directly on that rounded edge before the headlight curves downward into the bumper.
    • Use the image below as your placement reference:
    • Once the inner corner is correctly aligned, lightly tack it into place.
    • Begin aligning the top edge of the overlay along the upper white DRL while following the contour of the headlight toward the middle of the front bumper.
    • Make sure the overlay fully covers the illuminated white DRL without exposing any light along the top edge.
    • The top portion of the tint should extend slightly past the white DRL, while the black border closest to the hood should slightly overlap the factory black housing. This provides the most complete coverage while maintaining a factory appearance.
    • Next, align the outer curved section of the overlay toward the fender.
    • When viewed from the side of the vehicle, the overlay should cover as much of the white DRL as possible.
    • It is normal if a small portion of the DRL is visible when viewing the headlight straight-on from a 180° angle due to the curvature of the lens.
    • Once the top edge is aligned, the remainder of the overlay should naturally follow the shape of the headlight.
    • Slowly guide the lower edge into position by following the inside curvature of the headlight all the way toward the inner bottom corner.
    • Finally, work the lower tail of the overlay into place a small section at a time.
    • If the overlay extends slightly over the factory black trim (area near the middle of the bumper) surrounding the DRL, this is considered correct placement.
    • If necessary, apply light tension while laying the vinyl to eliminate small gaps.
    • After the overlay is fully positioned, firmly press the entire surface to activate the adhesive.
    • Do not apply heat until you are completely satisfied with the placement.
    • Remove the transfer tape.
    • Continue with Steps 5–10 below.

4. Important

    • If the placement is incorrect, carefully peel the overlay back up and reposition it.
    • Do NOT apply heat until the overlay is perfectly aligned.

5. Final Adjustment

    • Make any final positioning adjustments before permanently setting the vinyl.

6. Lock in the Placement

    • Once you are satisfied with the alignment, follow the adhesion instructions below.

7. Remove Minor Bubbles

    • Using a hair dryer or heat gun on a low setting, gently warm the vinyl to help remove any small bubbles or wrinkles while improving adhesion.

8. Squeegee the Surface

    • If bubbles remain, firmly press them outward with your finger or a soft squeegee toward the nearest edge until they disappear.

9. Reposition if Necessary

    • If you notice a wrinkle or misalignment before post-heating, carefully lift the vinyl and reposition it.
Apply a small amount of heat only if needed to relax stubborn wrinkles.

10. Final Post-Heat

    • Do not skip this step
Thoroughly post-heat the entire overlay after installation. This activates the adhesive, increases tack, helps the vinyl conform to the headlight's curves, and ensures maximum long-term durability.

📌 Reminder: Always post-heat the vinyl after installation. This activates the glue and ensures maximum adhesion.
