How to Install 2023–2027 Honda Pilot DRL Tint & Amber Delete

For Best Results

Tools Needed: Heat gun or blow dryer, padded glove or felt-tip squeegee

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Clean the Headlight

Rinse the headlight with soap and water or clean the entire surface with 70% isopropyl alcohol to remove dirt, dust, oils, and debris.

2. Dry the Surface Completely

Wipe the headlight completely dry. Make sure there is no moisture, dust, lint, or loose fibers remaining on the surface or around the edges.

3. Peel & Position the DRL Overlay

  1. Carefully peel the DRL overlay from the backing paper.
  2. Start by aligning the inner portion of the DRL overlay, closest to the center of the bumper.
  3. Make sure the colored tint covers the clear portion of the factory DRL.
  4. The lower black border of the overlay should sit flush with the lower factory black headlight surround.
  5. Align the upper black border so it sits just above the factory DRL for maximum coverage.
  6. Once the starting position is correct, use your free hand to guide the overlay across the DRL.
  7. With your other hand, smooth the overlay down gradually as you go, pushing any trapped air toward the nearest edge.
  8. The overlay should extend approximately 1/2 inch or less beyond the end of the white factory DRL.
  9. Once you are satisfied with the placement, peel off the transfer tape.

4. Peel & Position the Amber Delete

  1. Carefully peel the Amber Delete from its backing paper.
  2. Start by aligning the top edge of the Amber Delete just underneath the factory black outline surrounding the headlight.
  3. The overlay should sit on the clear portion of the headlight, not directly on top of the factory black outline. Use the inner edge of the black surround as your placement guide.
  4. Once the top edge is properly aligned, gently lay the rest of the overlay onto the headlight. Do not stretch the vinyl.
  5. Check the amber section from multiple viewing angles. The overlay should cover nearly all of the amber. A small amount may still be visible when viewing the headlight directly from the front.
  6. At the bottom of the headlight, the pointed end of the Amber Delete should sit nearly parallel with the beginning of the DRL overlay.
  7. The Amber Delete will slightly overlap the black surround of the DRL overlay installed previously. This is intentional and helps create a clean, finished appearance.
  8. Once everything is aligned, gently smooth the overlay down from the center outward.
  9. If you notice a small air bubble, firmly push it toward the nearest edge until the air escapes.

5. Adjust the Placement if Needed

If the placement does not look correct, carefully peel the overlay back and reposition it.

DO NOT apply heat until you are satisfied with the placement.

6. Smooth the Entire Overlay

Once the placement is correct, firmly smooth down the entire overlay, working from the center toward the outer edges.

Make sure there are no remaining bubbles, wrinkles, or lifted areas.

7. Check All Edges

Go around the entire Amber Delete and make sure every edge is making full contact with the headlight.

Pay extra attention to corners and pointed areas.

8. Remove Small Bubbles if Needed

For any remaining small bubbles, use your finger or felt-tip squeegee to firmly push the air toward the nearest edge.

A small amount of gentle heat can be used if needed to help the vinyl conform.

9. Correct Any Wrinkles Before Final Heating

If a wrinkle forms:

  1. Carefully lift only the affected section of the overlay.
  2. Apply a small amount of heat to relax the vinyl.
  3. Allow the material to cool slightly.
  4. Gently lay it back down without stretching or pulling the vinyl.

10. Final Placement Check

Before post-heating, inspect the overlays from several angles.

Make sure the DRL and amber areas are properly covered and that all edges are sitting in the correct position.

11. POST-HEAT THE OVERLAYS

Once you are completely satisfied with the installation, use a heat gun or blow dryer to evenly warm the entire overlay.

Pay extra attention to:

  • Edges
  • Corners
  • Curved areas
  • Overlapping sections

The vinyl should become hot/warm to the touch, but never scalding.

Firmly press the heated areas down while they cool.

Important Reminder

Always post-heat the vinyl after installation.

Post-heating helps activate the adhesive and improves long-term adhesion.
